Description
The Chieftain 3 Axle Commercial Drawbar Low Loader is a heavy-duty, road-compliant transport solution designed for professional operators who need a safe, stable and efficient way to move plant, machinery and equipment. Built for demanding construction, plant hire and commercial transport applications, it combines high-capacity carrying performance with advanced braking, strong commercial running gear and practical loading features throughout.
Supplied with EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval certification, the trailer gives operators confidence that it has been built and certified to meet recognised safety, technical and road-use standards. This supports legal road use and provides reassurance around braking, lighting, construction quality and overall roadworthiness. As a Northern Ireland manufacturer with ECWVTA approval, Chieftain can supply the 3 Axle Commercial Drawbar Low Loader to customers throughout Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the wider European Union.
With a gross weight of 25 tonnes, the trailer features a standard 6.1 metre deck with a 1.5 metre beavertail, giving a total deck length of 7.6 metres. This provides a strong and practical platform for transporting excavators, dumpers, telehandlers, access equipment and other plant machinery, while the tri-axle layout helps deliver excellent load distribution and stability under heavier loads.
For operators choosing a commercial drawbar low loader, road stability, braking performance and load security are key priorities. This model is fitted with commercial axles, raise/lower air suspension, two-line air braking with WABCO EBS, load sensing, park and shunt valves, spring brakes and automatic slack adjusters. The raise/lower air suspension helps improve ride quality and load stability, while also allowing the trailer height to be adjusted when loading, unloading or coupling to different towing vehicles.
A key benefit of the 3 axle model is the front lift axle. When travelling unladen or with lighter loads, the lift axle can help reduce tyre wear, improve manoeuvrability and reduce rolling resistance. It also gives operators more flexibility during day-to-day use, particularly when moving between sites or carrying varying load weights.
The trailer is designed with safe and efficient machinery loading in mind. It is fitted with 900mm wide hydraulic ramps powered by a hydraulic power pack, with swing-down support legs positioned beneath the beavertail to provide added stability during loading
and unloading. The 28mm Keruing hardwood floor offers a tough, durable deck surface suitable for regular use with tracked and wheeled machinery, helping to withstand impact, abrasion and heavy wear.
Load security is supported by lashing rings recessed into the side chimes and on the deck. These provide strong, practical tie-down points for securing machinery during transport, while keeping the loading surface cleaner and reducing the risk of snagging when moving equipment on and off the trailer.
Practical operator-focused features include a 410mm fixed headboard, stainless steel toolbox, two-speed adjustable height jacking leg, spray suppression mudflaps, sideguards, rear registration plate holder with light, full LED lighting, front and rear outline marker lights, red triangular reflectors, side amber reflectors, and conspicuity hi-vis tape fitted to the rear and sides. Red and yellow air suzies, along with electric and 24V EBS suzies are also supplied with the trailer.
A wide range of optional extras are available, including various deck lengths, a telescopic drawbar, double-flip hydraulic ramps, a full-width cheesewedge hydraulic ramp, galvanised telescopic outriggers, outrigger boards with storage trays, an air-locked rear steer axle, a reversing camera with monitor, LED flashing strobes, LED work lamps, an additional stainless steel toolbox, front and rear wide marker boards with LED lights, ISO twistlocks and fall-arrest posts and straps.
The optional air-locked rear steer axle is particularly beneficial for operators working in restricted yards, busy sites or areas with limited access. By improving turning performance and reducing tyre scrub, it makes the trailer easier to manoeuvre while helping to minimise tyre wear during low-speed turning.
Optional ISO twistlocks add further versatility, allowing suitable containers or containerised equipment to be securely positioned and transported on the trailer. This gives operators greater flexibility for specialist transport applications while ensuring container loads remain securely located during transit.
Built for strength, compliance and day-to-day usability, the Chieftain 3 Axle Commercial Drawbar Low Loader is ideal for professional operators who require a dependable, high-capacity trailer with excellent road performance, strong load security and the flexibility to suit a wide range of transport requirements. Manufactured in Northern Ireland with ECWVTA approval, it can be supplied to customers throughout Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the wider European Union.
Built for safe, stable and efficient road transport, the front lift axle helps improve manoeuvrability and reduce tyre wear when travelling unladen or with lighter loads. Optional extras such as an air-locked rear steer axle and ISO twistlocks allow the trailer to be tailored for tighter access, improved turning performance and secure container transport.
